DETROIT – When Matt and Dawn Sosebee of Cumming, Ga., decided to replace their Sequoia-sized Lexus GX470 SUV with a more fuel-efficient vehicle they considered a Toyota Highlander SUV until they did a side-by-side comparison with the 2012 GMC Acadia Denali crossover.
Acadia Denali’s three-row seating, fuel-efficiency and luxury amenities made the decision “a no brainer,” Matt Sosebee said.
“Acadia Denali blew away the Highlander,” said Sosebee, a father of two and small businessman who purchased the vehicle from Jim Ellis Buick-GMC in nearby Buford, outside of Atlanta. “The overall high quality and options really impressed us, and we've gotten a lot of compliments on it too. It's a great looking vehicle.”
Acadia Denali’s cooled and heated seats, backup camera, and IntelliLink infotainment system were among the many features that impressed the Sosebees. The SmartSlide seating system also won them over, because it allows their kids easy access to the third row with just the push of a button. Acadia Denali also offers the most interior space in its class and no other competitor offers more cargo volume behind the third row.
As of October, demand for Denali versions of Acadia, Sierra/HD trucks and Yukon/XL SUVs is up 20 percent year over year and account for 14 percent of GMC sales year to date – a 98 percent improvement over the same period last year. Nearly one of every three Acadia sales is a Denali.
“Acadia Denali, much like the Denali versions of Yukon and Sierra, is attracting new customers to our dealerships,” said Brian Sweeney, U.S. vice president of Buick and GMC Sales and Service. “Forty-four percent of GMC customers come from outside of GM brands, thanks in part to Denali’s blend of Professional Grade capability and amenities.”
In October, Acadia retail sales were up 20 percent year to date, with total sales up 22 percent.
It was a fruitful month for Terrain too, as the smaller SUV’s retail sales grew 48 percent year to date, with total sales rose 54 percent.
Sierra, including HD models, also made gains in October, with retail sales up 15 percent and total sales up 17 percent year to date.
Yukon/XL also continued to grow in October, with combined retail sales up 7 percent and total sales up 13 percent year to date.
All of these vehicles helped GMC increase its retail sales by 20 percent and total sales by 23 percent year to date, and achieve its 25th consecutive month of retail sales gains despite total sales being down 5 percent year over year.
